The prosecution and defense in the case of an attempted murder suspect scheduled a trial date on Aug. 17 at Baltimore City Circuit Court.
Gavin Johnson, 21, is charged in connection to an attempted murder on April 9, 2020.
According to the Maryland Judiciary website, Johnson faces charges of first and second-degree attempted murder; first and second-degree assault; reckless endangerment; firearm use in a violent crime; discharging firearms; illegal possession of ammo; having a handgun on his person; carrying a handgun within 100 yards; possession of a firearm as a minor; first, third and fourth-degree burglary; and fourth-degree burglary with theft.
Defense attorney Andrea Jaskulsky told Judge Melissa M. Phinn during reception court on Tuesday that Johnson is currently on home detention, but she hasn’t been able to get in touch with him, noting that his phone might be dead.
Judge Phinn said she found good cause to waive Johnson’s Hick’s date, referring to his right under Maryland law to be tried within 180 days of his first court appearance. Both the prosecution and Jaskulsky then agreed on a trial date of Jan. 19, 2022.
Judge Anthony F. Vittoria is expected to preside over the trial, which is scheduled to last three days.
