The murder trial of 29-year-old Dewitt Jackson continued on July 1 with details of the incident and testimony from the victim’s girlfriend before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey M. Geller.
Jackson is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree arson, home invasion and firearm use in a felony violent crime in connection to the death of 18-year-old Bryan Stansbury on Dec. 10, 2024.
Officers were reportedly able to identify Jackson as the suspect of the murder via cellphone location records and a white Ford Explorer with a distinctive sticker that he allegedly used to arrive at and depart from the crime scene.
Approximately 12 hours after police responded to the crime scene, the Baltimore City Fire Department arrived at the 2800 block of Saint Lo Drive in Clifton Park, where they found the Ford Explorer on fire. Arson detectives determined the fire was arson.
Investigators claim they were able to track Jackson’s cellphone from Rosedale, Maryland, where the Ford Explorer was originally reported stolen, to the murder scene and where the vehicle was later found burning. Jackson was arrested Feb. 3 in connection to another matter.
The victim’s girlfriend, who was living with him at the time of the incident, took the stand on Wednesday. She explained that when Jackson intruded the home, Stansbury told her to close the door behind him. Stansbury then went to confront Jackson, she told the court.
While Stansbury’s girlfriend had her back against the door, she said she heard the victim say, “Yo what are you doing?”
Shortly after, she alleged a gunshot rang out. She also claimed that she knew Jackson, identifying him as her half-sister’s boyfriend.
The trial is set to continue on July 2.
