On Feb. 15, a 31-year-old attempted murder defendant received a trial date after rejecting a plea offer before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland.
Larry Winder III is charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, having a handgun on his person, discharging a firearm in Baltimore City and firearm use in a felony violent crime for allegedly shooting his fiancee in the head in August 2023.
The prosecution offered Winder 50 years, suspending all but 30 years, for attempted first-degree murder and a concurrent five years without the possibility of parole for firearm use in a felony violent crime. Winder would also be required to stay away from the victim in this case and register a gun offender.
He rejected the offer, though it was a slight reduction from the prosecution’s previous offer.
Though Winder expressed some unwillingness to accept a trial date in late May, he accepted that date after speaking privately with his attorney, Roland Harris.
Judge Copeland scheduled Winder’s three-day trial for May 29 before Judge Melissa M. Phinn.
