On Jan. 23, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland scheduled a trial for a 62-year-old attempted murder defendant.
Antonio Fitzhugh is charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, firearm use in a felony violent crime, reckless endangerment, having a loaded handgun on his person, having a handgun in a vehicle and firing a gun in Baltimore City in connection to a June 2023 shooting.
The prosecutor did not have a plea offer, as he was recently assigned to the case.
Defense attorney Martin Cohen told the court he didn’t think the prosecution would be able to produce the witnesses to testify at trial and would oppose any future postponements made by the prosecution.
Judge Copeland scheduled Fitzhugh’s two-day trial to begin on Feb. 15 before Judge Yolanda A. Tanner.
Documents from the District Court of Maryland state the victim and a witness were standing under a porch of a vacant home on the 800 block of West Lanvale Street to avoid a rainstorm. Fitzhugh came out of his house on the block and told them to leave. The victim and Fitzhugh got into an argument, which culminated in Fitzhugh’s allegedly shooting the victim in the leg. Fitzhugh was identified by the witness via photo array.
