A 30-year-old man charged with the murder of a fellow prisoner was sentenced to 40 years in prison on Jan. 5 in a plea agreement between the prosecution and his defense counsel.
Cristino Flores-Perez initially accepted the plea agreement in September 2023 after he was accused of the murder of Shane Burton that occurred on Aug. 27, 2021. Burton was found in a pool of blood inside Flores-Perez’s prison cell that he shared with his co-defendant, Khalil Madden, at the Maryland Reception, Diagnostic and Classification Center on the 500 block of East Madison Street.
During Friday’s proceedings, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge John A. Howard imposed a sentence of 40 years for second-degree murder and a concurrent 60 years, suspending all but 40 years, and five years of supervised probation for conspiracy to commit second-degree murder. Cristino Flores-Perez was represented by defense attorney Antonios Heper.
Prior to Burton’s murder, Flores-Perez was incarcerated for fatally stabbing his cousin, Jesse Perez, on Sept. 15, 2019, on the 100 block of Rochester Place. The defendant accepted a plea in this case and was sentenced to 40 years for Perez’s murder—a sentence that will run concurrently to his latest sentence.
