On Sept. 27, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn set a trial date for 19-year-old defendant James Jenkins III.
According to the Maryland Judiciary website, Jenkins is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, use of a firearm in a felony violent crime, conspiracy to use a firearm in a felony violent crime, having a handgun in a vehicle and having a handgun on his person in connection to the incident on June 30, 2022.
The assistant state’s attorney stated that the first plea offered to the defendant was a life sentence for first-degree murder without further details, but he said plea negotiations with Jenkins’ defense attorney, Marci T. Johnson, were still ongoing.
Judge Phinn scheduled a five-day trial to begin on Feb. 1, 2024, before Judge Dana M. Middleton.
