During a six month status check hearing for defendant Antionne Johnson on June 7, Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Gale E. Rasin was informed that on May 26, Clifton T. Perkins Hospital sent a note requesting an extension because the evaluation of the defendant was unable to be completed.
Perkins stated that the report can be submitted by June 12 and that the report needs to be fresh in order to determine competency.
Johnson, 31, objects to the extension but his defense attorney, Ronald S Harris IV, was unclear what would happen if the extension was objected.
Harris stated that since Johsnon has been detained since May of last year, he is very anxious and frustrated and wants a not criminally responsible (NCR) plea. A not criminally responsible (NCR) plea can not be accepted unless Johnson is found competent.
According to an article previously published by Baltimore Witness, Circuit Court Medical found Johnson incompetent to stand trial in December 2022.
Currently, Judge Rasin is unsure if Johnson is competent or incompetent and has scheduled the case to be brought back June 14.
According to the Maryland Judiciary website, Johnson is charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, two counts of firearm use in a felony violent crime, discharging firearms, armed carjacking, carjacking, first and second-degree assault, two counts of firearm possession with a felony conviction, theft between $1500 and $25,000, having a handgun on his person, and having a hand gun in a vehicle in connection with an incident that occurred on May 4, 2022.
