A Baltimore woman pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder on Aug. 11 for the stabbing of a woman who was dating her ex-boyfriend, in a hearing before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Martin Schreiber.

Jennifer Prout, 22, was arrested on Oct. 6, 2021, for stabbing the woman multiple times. According to court documents, the woman was dating Prout’s ex-boyfriend. The two got into a physical altercation after the victim asked Prout to come fight.

Police arrived at the scene and got information from the victim, who had been stabbed several times, that led to Prout’s arrest with her still having the knife.

Prout then admitted to police that she had gotten into a physical altercation with the victim, who she said was punching and choking her.

The victim had a slightly different story, but agreed that she punched first because she felt threatened by how the manner the defendant approached her.

Prout was initially charged with first and second-degree attempted murder, first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and use of a deadly weapon with the intent to injure.

The guilty plea comes with a sentence of 40 years in prison suspending all but 20 years with five years on supervised probation.

Under the plea, Prout must attend anger management class, drug and alcohol screenings and have no contact with the victim.

Prout will receive credit for time served dating back to Oct. 8, 2021.
