Although scheduled to begin a jury trial on April 13, defendant Stanford Ronnell McNair Jr. walked out of Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Barry G Williams’ courtroom Wednesday morning after accepting a plea of 10 years for vehicular manslaughter.
Judge Williams’ chambers confirmed that McNair accepted a plea of 10 years for vehicular manslaughter, a suspended 10 years sentence for failure to immediately return and remain at the scene of an accident involving death, and a concurrent one year for attempting to drive a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol for a total of 20 years, suspending all but 10 years, with five years probation.
The 52-year-old defendant must also complete drug and alcohol treatment under the plea agreement.
McNair, who was represented by defense attorney Megan Lewis, was originally charged with vehicular manslaughter, vehicular homicide while intoxicated, vehicular homicide while under the influence as well as 15 traffic violations for the incident on Aug. 31, 2020.
Last September, McNair rejected a plea of 10 years for vehicular manslaughter, 10 years for failure to remain at an accident that resulted in injury to another person, and a DUI charge, all of which would have been served consecutively.
