A 28-year-old Baltimore man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend and a bystander in November 2018 had a trial date specially set for August, nearly three years after a Baltimore City Circuit Court judge declared a mistrial due to a violation of his due process rights.

Lorenzo Kevin Terry is charged with multiple counts of attempted murder as well as assault, reckless endangerment, and firearms charges in connection to a shooting on Nov. 17, 2018, on the 1500 block of Ramsay Street.

According to court documents, two women were driving in the area when one of them spotted her ex-boyfriend, later identified as Terry. The defendant’s ex-girlfriend got out of the car and stood outside about a half a block away when Terry allegedly fired seven gunshot rounds at her.

Terry’s ex-girlfriend was shot twice, and a bystander was shot while walking out of a bar.

Shortly after the start of a jury trial in October 2019, the presiding judge declared a mistrial after the prosecution failed to disclose witness statements, documents state. A new trial has since been delayed due to the appellate process to dismiss the case.

On April 12, the prosecution offered Terry a plea of life, suspending all but 30 years, and five years probation for attempted first-degree murder; 15 years, the first five years without parole, for firearm use during a felony violent crime; 30 years for another count of attempted first-degree murder; 15 years, the first five years without parole, for another count of firearm use during a felony violent crime; and five years without parole for firearm possession with a felony conviction.

All sentences would run concurrently.

Defense attorney George Harris rejected the plea, and a trial date was specially set for Aug. 22 before Judge Jeannie J. Hong.
