Jury selection began March 24 in the case of 20-year-old Anthony Berry, who is being tried for his alleged involvement in a shooting that occurred more than two years ago in Fells Point.
Berry, who was 17 at the time of the incident, is charged with four counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault and three gun offenses for reportedly shooting two men and leaving them hospitalized.
The counts stem from a chaotic scene on Feb. 18, 2024. Charging documents state that police responded to reports of gunfire on the 400 block of S. Broadway, where they found a victim in the passenger seat of a gray Acura TL, suffering from graze wounds to his hand and chest.
Nearby, at the corner of South Broadway and Eastern Avenue, officers located a second victim who had been hit four times in his neck, arm and rear. Both men were rushed to Johns Hopkins Hospital for treatment.
Investigators caught a break in the case when a tip identified a person said to be Berry as the shooter. Though the incident occurred just days before Berry’s 18th birthday, the defendant is being tried as an adult due to the violent nature of the crime.
The case is being tried before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge LaZette C. Ringgold-Kirksey.
