East Baltimore Attempted Murder Case Postponed Again Amid Defendant’s Health Concerns

The case of Deshaen Carroll, 52, was deferred March 12 in Baltimore City Circuit Court after the defendant fell ill, sparking worries about his ability to take part in the in proceedings.

Carroll is charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder, assault, reckless endangerment and firearm-related offenses resulting from a shooting that occurred July 13, 2025 in East Baltimore.

According to charging documents, Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers responded around 10 p.m. to several ShotSpotter alerts near the 2000 block of Kennedy Avenue, where they located one victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his right shin. A second victim was found nearby on the 2000 block of Robb Street, with gunshot wounds to his forearm, shoulder and groin.

Surveillance footage is said to capture Carroll shooting at the victims before fleeing in a silver 2006 Mercedes R500.

During the hearing with Judge Dana M. Middleton, court personnel received a call concerning Carroll’s health, prompting a re-assessment.

Earlier Carroll declined a plea deal and asked for new representation, claiming that his former lawyer, Augustine Okeke, failed to properly explain the evidence or carry out interviews with the victims. His case was postponed in February and a new trial date has been scheduled for May 27 in which Carroll may be representing himself.
