Jamari Marquese Hammond, 24, is scheduled for a jury trial on Aug. 12 after rejecting a plea offer the previous day before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Lawrence Daniels.
Hammond is charged in connection with a Dec. 8, 2025, shooting on the 400 block of E. Baltimore Street. He faces counts of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, firearm use in a felony or violent crime, reckless endangerment, and multiple handgun-related offenses.
According to court documents, Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers responded to the area after the victim reported that someone shot at him. Officers found the victim’s red Toyota Scion with damage to the front and rear windows. The victim had minor cuts on his back but was not struck by gunfire and declined medical treatment.
The victim told police he stopped for food, and then parked on East Baltimore Street. While sitting in his vehicle, he said a man approached, opened the vehicle door, and brandished a pink .40-caliber handgun with a 50-round drum magazine.
The victim said he fought with the man over the handgun after the suspect pointed it toward his neck. The suspect eventually retreated into a gray Honda Odyssey parked in front of the victim’s vehicle. As the victim attempted to drive away, he heard one to two shots fired from behind his vehicle, damaging both windshields.
Detectives obtained CCTV footage showing the victim’s vehicle arriving before the Honda Odyssey. The footage captured a resulting altercation and showed the suspect pulling a handgun from his waistband. A woman was also seen with the suspect, and the two were captured fleeing westbound on East Baltimore Street after the shooting.
Detectives used CitiWatch cameras and license plate reader footage to identify the Virginia tag on the Honda. The vehicle allegedly was previously stopped, and Hammond was listed as the driver. The victim later identified a person said to be Hammond from a photo array.
During the proceedings, the state offered Hammond 15 years, suspending all but seven years, with the first five years without parole. Hammond ultimately rejected the offer and chose to proceed to trial after Judge Daniels explained the terms and Hammond consulted privately with his attorney.
The plea offer was withdrawn, setting the stage for opening statements.
