May Trial Set for Suspect Accused of Missing Food Shooting

A Baltimore judge set a May trial date on Feb. 9 for 54-year-old Anthony Ward, who faces attempted murder and firearm charges in connection to a shooting that occurred last October.

Charging documents note that on Oct. 24, Ward got into a heated argument with his niece’s boyfriend that resulted in approximately four gunshots being fired in an alleyway on the 6600 block of Park Heights Avenue.

The victim reported that the conflict began over food that went missing at the residence on Park Heights Avenue. When the argument escalated, Ward reportedly put his hand in his waistband, causing the victim “to pull back.” The victim advised responding officers that he did not see a gun because it was dark outside.

While the victim was speaking to responding officers, Ward arrived at the scene, and the victim identified him as the suspect who allegedly shot at him. Ward was arrested shortly after and booked. Officers were able to locate three shell casings at the scene, but no firearm.

During the Feb. 9 hearing, Ward’s defense attorney, Brandon Thornton, discussed a prosecution plea offer of 40 years, suspending all but 20, with the first five to be served without parole. The deal also mandated five years of supervised probation upon release and registration as a gun offender.

Ward, who mistakenly believed his case had closed following his initial appearance on Dec. 15, 2025, rejected the offer and requested a jury trial.

At Thornton’s request, Ward is now set to be tried on May 12 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Althea M. Handy.
