Defendant Wants to Fire Attorney in Attempted Murder Case

The trial of Travis Maynor, 45, was postponed on Feb. 9 due to apparent communication issues between the defendant and his attorney, Andre Mahasa.

Maynor is charged with multiple counts of attempted murder, firearm use and assault in connection to an Aug. 20, 2024 shooting that left a man critically injured at a Carroll Motor Fuels gas station located on the 4100 block of Patterson Avenue.

Mahasa noted he plans to present new DNA evidence at a later date and requested a postponement in order to prepare. The evidence had been set on Feb. 4, according to both Mahasa and the state’s attorney.

The court initially denied the postponement request, and a break was called to allow Mahasa to review footage recently submitted by the state that allegedly showed the defendant and an accomplice exiting a vehicle and donning face masks. Both were seen approaching the victim and shooting him several times before running back to the car, discarding their masks and driving off.

After reviewing the footage, Maynor asked Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Robert K. Taylor to have Mahasa discharged from the case. Maynor described past disagreements and claimed a previously scheduled meeting between the two had been postponed three months, with Mahasa moving it from Jan. 29, 2025, to April 29, 2025.

Maynor also claimed Mahasa failed to share critical evidence with him, leaving him unaware of the video footage.

“He tells me one thing, then doesn’t show up for two weeks later,” Maynor said.

Mahasa blamed the issues on his laptop, and acknowledged his failure to share key evidence with his client.

Maynor’s family has reportedly reached out in the past to ask if the defendant could obtain private counsel.

Judge Taylor ultimately reserved the motion to discharge Mahasa, expressing uncertainty regarding the Office of the Public Defender’s ability to secure another attorney for Maynor.

The trial is postponed until further notice.
