On July 7, Dominic Felder opted for a jury trial in connection to the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Tavin Cooper in October 2024.

Felder, 34, and defense attorney John Cox appeared before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Cynthia H. Jones on Monday morning to begin jury selection and anticipated opening statements. Felder is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony or violent crime, firearm possession with a prior felony conviction and having a handgun on his person.

Charging documents state that Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers responded to the 2500 block of McHenry Street after multiple ShotSpotter alerts. Officers found Cooper with gunshot wounds to the head.

Medics transported him to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he later died.

The prosecution expects to call only two witnesses–a crime technician and a firearm specialist. Judge Jones said court will not be in session on July 11; however, the attorneys said they believed the trial could conclude by July 9.
