Gregory Granger, 40, represented by defense attorney Staci Pipkin, waived his right on May 16 to a speedy trial within the 180 day deadline of an initial court appearance.
Granger allegedly shot and killed Ricky Forehand, 44, and injured another 45-year-old man in a dispute on Dec. 16, 2024, on the 2300 block of West North Avenue.
Police arrested Granger on Jan. 8. The prosecution and defense have not yet fully agreed on the evidence to be disclosed evidence in the case. However, The prosecution offered a plea deal for one count of first-degree murder, which the defense has rejected.
Pursuant to Maryland law, Granger’s criminal trial was originally set to occur before Sept. 1. However, following the arrest of a co-defendant for a separate crime, Granger waived his right to a speedy trial.
Pipkin said she hopes to schedule a joint motions hearing with Granger and his codefendant for Oct. 22.
