Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland set a trial date of Oct. 10 for Lamonte Sherman, 29.
Sherman is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of firearm use in a felony or violent crime for allegedly killing 28-year-old Phillip Brown and 28-year old Michael Saffold on Dec. 3, 2023, on the 3600 block of Greenmount Avenue.
The new date follows two prior postponements, the first requested by defense attorney, Roya Hanna, to examine recently disclosed GPS evidence from Oct. 23, 2024, and the second on March 12 because the prosecutor was ill.
The prosecution also offered a plea deal, which would have sentenced Sherman to 60 years in prison, with five years of probation. He rejected it.
In addition, Sherman also shared his continued frustration, questioning why his trial has been delayed.
Judge Copeland questioned the repeated delays, responding to Sherman’s concerns.
The prosecutor told the judge that key individuals, including a witness, family of one of the victims, and a medical expert would not be available until October.
