Deluntae Boyd, 34, appeared in a reception court hearing on March 14 accused of murdering Robert Horstman following an incident at a Checkers’ restaurant.
Boyd is charged with first-degree murder and robbery in the case.
According to charging documents, on April 17, 2024, Horstman arrived at a Checkers located on the 5300 block of Moravia Road. He ordered food and sat down at an outside table to eat. A man later identified as Boyd attempted to order food at the same window but found the restaurant closed.
Boyd approached Horstman’s table and allegedly snatched his food. After a verbal altercation, Boyd walked away, but turned back around as Horstman was yelling at him. He then allegedly started to assault Horstman, pushing him to the ground and stomping his head eight times.
Horstman succumbed to his injuries on July 30, 2024, while in hospice care.
Boyd did not have counsel with him during the hearing as his previous defense attorney, Todd Oppenheim resigned from the Baltimore City’s Office of the Public Defender.
Defense attorney Angela Shelton has been reassigned to the case but has not made contact with the prosecution.
Boyd is set to reappear in front of Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa K. Copeland on March 21.
