On Jan. 22, Tyquann Flythe, 26, suspect in a Pulaski Highway murder, accepted a plea offer before Baltimore City Circuit Judge Cynthia H. Jones during an emotional hearing as the victim’s family discussed the impact of the crime.

On March 12, 2024, Flythe was arrested for killing 42-year-old, Donald Castle Jr., on the 3100 block of Pulaski Highway after a shooting that occurred the previous day.

Flythe was charged with first degree-murder and firearm use in a felony or violent crime as well as having a handgun on his person and in a vehicle.

As previously reported, the defendant initially declined a plea offer on Nov. 8, 2024.

In the hearing, Flythe accepted the prosecution’s offer of life, suspending all but 40 years, with five years probation for first-degree murder. For count two, firearm use in a felony or violent crime, he received 20 years, the first 15 without parole, as well as five years probation. The sentences are to be served concurrently.

During victim impact statements, the victim’s mother said to the defendant, “I can look in your eyes and see you have no remorse for what you’ve done.” She also said Castle’s 25-year-old son saw his father murdered.

After victim impact statements, defense attorney Andrea E. Jaskulsky claimed the defendant was a “pillar of the community.” The victim’s family scoffed in response. Afterward several family members exited the courtroom abruptly.

For his part, Flythe expressed contrition. “I apologize from the bottom of my soul,” he said.
