A 28-year-old man was sentenced to life in prison plus 21 years for the murder of Baltimore rapper David Boykin, also known as President Davo, before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Kendra Y. Ausby.

Earl Lee was found guilty of first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony or violent crime and firearm possession with a felony conviction in connection to the murder of 28-year-old Boykin outside of Boykin’s house on the 2000 block of Cliftwood Avenue on October 23.

During the sentencing hearing Oct. 1, Boykin’s mother read a letter Boykin had written to his family in July 2023, expressing his love and hope for his three young children.

“My whole family will forever mourn,” she said tearfully.

Lee’s defense attorney, Paul Kramer, acknowledged the tragic impact on both families and asked the judge to give Lee an opportunity to be with his children. Lee maintained his innocence.

Judge Ausby stated the murder left Boykin’s family traumatized, not just by the loss of their family, but also by being forced to watch videos of the incident and interviews with Lee, in which Lee told conflicting stories, claiming at times that he didn’t know Boykin and at others that it was a premeditated murder.

Lee, who was already on probation for a previous conviction, received a life sentence for first-degree murder, 15 years, the first five years without the possibility of parole for firearm use in a felony violent crime and six years for firearm possession with a felony conviction, all to be served consecutively.
