A 62-year-old woman was sentenced to three years of incarceration on June 5 after driving drunk and fatally hitting another woman with her car in December 2021.

Geraldine Stevenson accepted a guilty plea for vehicular manslaughter in February and was sentenced on Monday before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Charles Dorsey. The defendant was sentenced to 10 years, suspending all but three years, and three years of supervised probation.

During Monday’s sentencing, the prosecution informed the court that Stevenson had passed out just before the crash.

According to court documents, Stevenson told officers with the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) that she had been drinking at a bar on the evening of Dec. 5, 2021, and had two Twisted Teas. Shortly before 12:30 a.m., she was driving her grey 1999 Acura TL on the 1200 block of W. North Avenue and lost control while speeding, skidding across the intersection at Druid Hill Avenue and onto the sidewalk on the 1300 block of W. North Avenue.

Stevenson, who had a 0.13 blood alcohol level, struck a pedestrian, a street light pole, and then another pedestrian, later identified as 63-year-old Theresa Jones, who was standing on the sidewalk.

The defendant has no prior convictions and was represented by defense attorney Harvey Maizels.
