Attempted homicide suspect Delvon Bryant, 19, rejected a plea deal Aug. 24.
Bryant is charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, a misdemeanor for the use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime, and other handgun-related misdemeanor charges. He is being charged for an incident that occurred Dec. 9, 2025, when an 18-year-old man was shot on the 3000 block of Ridgewood Avenue.
The prosecution offered a plea deal of 25 years in prison, suspending all but 10 years. In this deal, Bryant must serve at least 5 years of prison time before he can seek parole. He must also serve 5 years on supervised probation.
According to charging documents, after a brief chase from the scene, Bryant was apprehended by detectives. Officers found a gun, the suspected weapon, a few feet away from the location Bryant was arrested. The victim identified an acquaintance named “Del” as the shooter, whom he identified as the shooter when shown a photo of the suspect.
Bryant, represented by defense attorney Charles Paul, rejected the prosecution’s offer and presented a counter-offer of 25 years with all but 5 years suspended.The prosecution rejected the defense’s counter offer after speaking to the victim.
Jury selection began Aug. 24. The trial is expected to start on Aug. 25 and last for two -and-a-half days.
