A 20-year-old Baltimore man charged for a triple shooting on North Charles Street in April pleaded guilty on Dec. 11 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer.
Dashawn Brown, who was represented by defense attorney Julie Shapiro, was initially scheduled for a jury trial on Monday. However, the defendant accepted the prosecution’s plea offer of 20 years, suspending all but five years, for first-degree assault and a concurrent five years without parole for firearm use in a felony or violent crime. He will also serve three years of supervised probation.
According to court documents, Brown shot three men on the 2100 block of North Charles Street on April 17. The shooting began after a physical altercation between Brown and one of the victims, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Brown was shot in his stomach during the incident.
The defendant was originally facing more charges, including three counts of attempted first and second-degree murder and second-degree assault, two additional counts of first-degree assault and firearm use in a felony or violent crime and single counts of reckless endangerment, firearm possession with a felony conviction, firearm possession with a drug conviction, possession of a firearm as a minor, having a handgun on his person, illegal possession of ammunition and firing a gun in Baltimore City.
