Baltimore City Circuit Judge Lawrence Daniels sentenced a 26-year-old defendant to a 10-years of incarceration on Oct. 24 as part of a plea deal which also includes four years of supervised probation and three years of home detention.

Kiari Cromwell, 26, was charged with firearm possession with a felony conviction, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, firearm possession with a drug conviction, illegal possession of ammunition, having a handgun on his person, having a handgun in a vehicle and firing a gun in Baltimore City. The charges were in connection to an incident that occurred on April 12.

According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, Baltimore Police Department (BPD) officers responded to a report of a shooting on the 1000 block of Wildwood Parkway. The victim told investigators he was driving westbound on the parkway when another vehicle nearly ran him off the road. The victim proceeded to follow the vehicle until it stopped at the crime scene.

Both drivers got out of their vehicles and confronted each other, but the victim stopped and returned to his vehicle after seeing the defendant had a handgun. The victim allegedly fired his gun at the defendant who fired back before they both got back into their vehicles and drove away.

Police later identified Cromwell after he crashed his vehicle and was taken to a hospital for multiple gunshot wounds to his torso.

His family attended the sentencing as Cromwell said he had been taking pain medication and going to therapy after being shot ten times. Defense attorney Jason Ott said Cromwell has been in and out of the hospital and was wearing a leg and hand brace.

The prosecution stated that Cromwell plead guilty to possession of a firearm, and having a handgun in a vehicle.

Judge Daniels informed Cromwell that if he violated terms of the deal, he would face additional time in prison.
