A Baltimore man convicted of assault failed to appear at his probation hearing before Baltimore City Circuit Judge Paul Cucuzzella on July 6, causing a postponement in his case.
Jaylean Weeks, 19, was initially charged with attempted murder, assault, reckless endangerment, and firearm use in connection to a July 2024 incident that occurred at an apartment complex on the 4200 block of York Road.
According to previous reporting, the incident stemmed from a romantic disagreement. When the victim attempted to end her relationship with Weeks, he allegedly pulled a gun on her. She fled, and Weeks reportedly responded by pulling out a knife and attempted to cut her throat. The victim blocked him with her right hand and sustained stab wounds. Following the attack, authorities observed bite marks on her right shoulder, arm and leg.
A nearby neighbor heard the victim scream and called 911. By the time officers responded to the scene, the suspect had already fled the apartment complex and surrounding area.
Officers then questioned the victim and showed her a photo of the suspect. She confirmed it was Weeks who stabbed her.
Weeks pleaded guilty to second-degree assault. He was sentenced to ten years, suspended all but one year and two weeks. He was also placed on supervised probation for five years.
Weeks allegedly violated his probation when he failed to go to intake at the House of Ruth twice, which is a center for intimate partner violence.
Judge Cucuzzella issued a bench warrant for the defendant’s arrest on July 6.
