Trial proceedings moved slowly and featured unique issues on July 22 before ending early on the second day of an attempted murder defendant’s trial before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Cynthia H. Jones

The trial began almost an hour and a half late, due to the defendant, Corey Pointer, missing his clothes.

When trial was able to begin, the victim took the stand to testify against Pointer, 26, saying the incident sparked over Pointer, a family friend and music partner selling her the incorrect amount of weed. The victim said she refused to pay in full.

The victim said Pointer sent her angry text messages asking for the money, which totaled around $40. When the victim and Pointer ran into each other, they began to argue.

She said Pointer punched her in the head as she tried to leave, saying, “If you wanna act like a man imma treat you like a man.”

The victim then remembered being shot several times from behind, although she never saw Pointer with a gun. She said she saw him pick up her backpack that had around $2,500 and leave.

The story was backed by surveillance footage. The victim recounted the incident almost identically and later immediately identified Pointer as the shooter in a photo array.

However, the story got more complicated during cross-examination. The questions were confusing the victim and leading to conflicting answers from her prior testimony.

Defense attorney Lawrence Rosenberg questioned statements the victim made to police, specifically after she was fresh out of surgery. According to Rosenberg, the victim said she did not remember much about the incident.

Then, he shifted to the incident, implying the victim was lying about why she was at the address and insinuating that the victim shot at Pointer, hitting his car using a gun he had previously left in her car.

After the witness’ testimony, Judge Jones decided to end court for the day.

Pointer’s trial is scheduled to resume on July 25.
