Two cases, one an alleged shooting and the other an alleged attempted murder, were not called in reception court on Sept. 30 at Baltimore City Circuit Court.
Judge Melissa Phinn mentioned the names of both defendants in passing, but their cases were never called.
The attempted murder defendant, Edward Jerod Smith, had previously rejected a plea offer of life, suspending all but five years, and five years probation for attempted first-degree murder. The court would also have the ability to decide during his sentence if he should be given an additional five years for firearm use in a violent crime.
The second defendant, a 19-year-old man, is charged with seven firearm-related charges, including two counts of discharging a firearm.
