Trial Rescheduled for 23-Year-Old Attempted Murder Defendant

A 23-year-old woman accused of the attempted murder of a 57-year-old car service driver rejected a plea for 10 years on Feb. 22 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn.

Veronica Jiggetts is charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, conspiracy to commit first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, use of a firearm during a felony violent crime, conspiracy to use of a firearm during a felony violent crime, two counts of having a handgun on person, two counts of having a handgun in a vehicle on a public road, having a handgun within 100 yards of a public building, and discharging a firearm.

Jiggetts was offered a plea of 25 years, suspending all but 10, the first five without the possibility of parole, for first-degree assault and firearm use during a violent crime. Under the offer, she would be required to stay away from the victim. She rejected the offer in August 2021.

According to WBAL-TV, Jiggetts, 23, was with another Baltimore resident, Aniyah Wright, 19. They called a car service to the 1900 block of Braddish Avenue on Nov. 16, 2019. When the driver arrived, an argument broke out between the man and two women because he did not want them open bottle of liquor while in the car.

Jiggetts allegedly punched the driver in the face, and Wright handed Jiggetts a gun.

The driver then exited the car and began to run down the street. Jiggetts reportedly fired at the man multiple times, eventually hitting him in the back.

Jiggetts’ trial was rescheduled for Oct. 5.
