Trial Postponed for Homicide Defendant Charged with Stabbing A 44-Year-Old Man

A 40-year-old homicide defendant’s case was rescheduled during reception court on March 8 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn.

Karl Anderson was charged with first-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon with the intent to injure in connection to an incident on Nov. 23, 2020.

Initially, Anderson was offered a plea of 25-35 years for first-degree murder, which was rejected by his defense attorney Sharon Dubey on Sept. 21, 2021.

During court proceedings on Tuesday, Judge Phinn listened as the defendant’s defense attorney requested a postponement of the trial time for the defense to receive a DNA report.

The prosecution agreed with the postponement. Judge Phinn granted the request.

According to CBS Baltimore, at approximately 7:44 a.m., officers responded to the 3300 block of Burleith Avenue to investigate a stabbing. Upon arrival they found Bernard Richardson, 44, suffering from several stab wounds. He was taken to Sinai Hospital where he later died.

Police said the men had family ties and there was an alleged altercation before the stabbing.

Anderson’s trial has been scheduled for Oct. 17.
