The trial for a man accused of murdering his girlfriend may be delayed due to counsel waiting on DNA results.

Major Kinchen, 31, is charged in connection with the murder of his girlfriend Breonna Rogers. Rogers’ body was found in Druid Hill Park with a gunshot wound to the neck around 8 p.m. on Jan. 19.

Kinchen is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, and firearm possession with a felony conviction.

He did not accept the prosecution’s plea offer of life for  first-degree murder.

Counsel told Judge Melissa Phinn in reception court on Sept. 30 that they are waiting for cell phone data as well as DNA testing. No DNA testing has come back at all.

A trial is scheduled for Nov. 15; however, the DNA results will determine if counsel would be ready for the current trial date.
