Counsel delivered opening statements in the murder trial of a man accused of shooting and killing a 19-year old on July 29.
Devon Young, 24, is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, firearm possession with a felony conviction and firearm use in a felony violent crime for his alleged connection to the murder of 19-year-old Damond Price on Jan. 27, 2022, on the 4800 block of Lorelly Avenue.
The prosecutor said the crime occurred around 10:30 p.m. in a parking lot surrounded by row houses and apartment buildings.
Video evidence shows the victim walking up to a silver vehicle and a person from the back passenger side getting out of the car to talk to him. Then, the front passenger gets out of the car with a handgun.
The person in back pulls out two more handguns. The driver gets out of the car with a rifle. All of the silver car’s passengers shoot at the victim multiple times before fleeing the scene, according to the prosecution.
Baltimore Police Department investigators recovered a cell phone from the scene, which they believed belonged to Young, as well as another cell phone, which police confiscated during Young’s arrest.
Defense attorney David Walsh-Little asked the jury in his opening statement, “Does Devon Young have a motive to commit this crime?”
He asked the jury to listen to listen to evidence showing that there was potential contamination of the crime scene by detectives.
The trial is set to continue for three days in front of Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Robert K. Taylor, Jr.
