“Vigilante justice is not justice at all.”
The assistant state’s attorney said to a jury on the first day of trial for a man charged with the fatal shooting of Jazzeind Kasif Fulton before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Robert K. Taylor Jr. on April 13.
During opening statements, the assistant state’s attorney reminded the jury of the facts of the case.
On April 18, 2020, Fulton, 23, and a male acquaintance allegedly attempted to rob an automobile shop on the 2300 block of Evergreen Street. Fulton’s acquaintance alleged that in their attempt, gunshots were fired, and Fulton was shot.
On April 19, 2020, Fulton was discovered deceased in the backseat of his vehicle.
On Dec. 8, 2020, defendant Keith Taylor was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm in a felony violent crime, having a handgun on his person, and possession of a firearm with a felony conviction in connection to the murder of Fulton.
Linda Zeit, who represents Taylor, alleged during her opening statement that Taylor, 43, was not an initial person of interest, as he was not brought in for formal questioning by the Baltimore City Police Department.
According to Zeit, the area surrounding Evergreen Street had experienced “ongoing thefts and drug activity.” Salter went on to claim that “not a single person” would be called as a witness and say they “saw Mr. Taylor near the crime scene.”
This trial is scheduled to continue on April 14.
