Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jennifer B. Schiffer heard opening statements from the assistant state’s attorney and defense attorney Donald Wright on Sept. 13 for murder trial.

Wright is representing Deamonte Spencer who is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of firearm use in a felony violent crime and illegal possession of a regulated firearm.

During opening statements, the prosecution said there was security camera footage that captured audio of the event but not video and, “Deamonte Spencer committed these brutal murders… He should be held accountable.”

The defense stated that Baltimore Police Department investigators “did not go into the investigation with an open mind,” and “did not follow the evidence to its natural conclusion.” Wright also said that the police “ignored evidence from other possible suspects,” and that “this entire case is a textbook of poor investigation.”
Spencer, 30, is charged in connection to an incident on Dec. 20, 2020\ in which he allegedly shot and killed sisters, 25-year-old Kamira Jeter and 28-year-old Leah Jeter. Police used cell phone location data and Instagram data to track down Spencer.
