A teenager, who was 17 when he and two co-defendants allegedly killed an 18-year-old, rejected a plea offer and had a trial date set during reception court Sept. 20 at Baltimore City Circuit Court.
Deshon Walker, now 19, was allegedly involved in the murder of Riyad Campbell around midnight on the 2400 block of Tolley Street on March 29, 2020. His co-defendants are James Boisseau and Devin Thompson.
Boisseau’s trial was slated to begin on Sept 23, but it was postponed due to COVID-related issues.
Thompson pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit first-degree murder on July 23 and was offered a lesser charge because of his willingness to testify against his co-defendants.
Walker has 23 charges against him, including first and second-degree murder, two counts of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder, and other charges involving firearms and robbery.
The prosecution offered a plea of life, suspending all but 50 years, with five years of supervised probation, for one count of first-degree murder.
Walker and his defense attorney, Jessica Ruben, standing in for Tony Garcia, rejected this offer.
A trial was set for Jan. 6, 2022.
