Two co-defendants accused of murder over two years ago received a trial date on Aug. 18 at Baltimore City Circuit Court.
Aaron Michael Clubb, 25, and Tywon Johnson, 27, both face charges of first-degree murder, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and firearm use in a violent crime. Clubb is also charged with conspiracy to first-degree murder and illegal possession of a firearm.
The incident occurred on July 15, 2019.
On Wednesday, Clubb and Johnson were offered a plea of life, suspending all but 50 years, followed by five years of supervised probation, for one count of first-degree murder. Clubb’s defense attorney, Alex Leikus, and Johnson’s defense attorneys, Andrea Jaskulsky and Deborah Levi, rejected the offer on their clients’ behalf.
The prosecution said Clubb previously waived his Hick’s date—his right under Maryland law to be tried within 180 days of his first court appearance—and Johnson waived his Hick’s date on Wednesday.
Johnson’s defense attorneys also said their client is currently on home detention after he was shot and left paralyzed in a separate incident that occurred after the alleged homicide in 2019.
Judge Melissa M. Phinn scheduled the co-defendants for trial on Feb. 14, 2022, before Judge Yvette M. Bryant in courtroom 230 in the Cummings Courthouse.
