Suspect Sentenced to Eight Years in Self-Inflicted Shooting

A 36-year old man was found guilty and sentenced on June 26 for charges related to a 2023 self-inflicted shooting in Baltimore City Circuit Court.

Timothy Sutton, after being found guilty on all three counts, was sentenced to 15 years, suspending all but eight, with the first five without the possibility of parole and three years of probation for firearm possession with a felony conviction, one concurrent year with for illegal possession of ammunition and a concurrent six month sentence for for making a false statement to a police officer.

According to documents from the District Court of Maryland, Sutton claimed that he was shot by an unknown man near the 5800 block of Belair Road and suffering a wound in his left leg on April 29, 2023. Sutton gave inconsistent statements about the incident and also had a graze wound on his left hand, which led police to believe he shot himself with an illegal firearm.

Sutton was defended by Brandon Taylor during his trial before Judge Jeannie J. Hong.
