The suspect in a homicide claims he was acting in self-defense in a March 10 trial opening before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa Phinn.
Isaiah Eaddy, 33, is charged with first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony violent crime, two counts of firearm possession with a felony conviction, and two counts of having a handgun in his possession in relation to the murder of Kareem Gee on Jan 26, 2024 on the 1200 block of East Preston Street.
According to Bradley MacFee, Eaddy’s defense counsel, Eaddy only returned fire after being shot in the right side. He said there were other shooters the police had not yet apprehended, perhaps as many as four to seven people not visible to surveillance cameras. MacFee told the jury there were eight shell casings found on the scene, but Eaddy only fired his gun three times .
He maintained the shooters even returned to the scene to retrieve a fallen comrade which was not visible on camera.
The prosecuting attorney began her opening statement by saying, “Don’t check your common sense at the door.”
She laid out the definition of first-degree murder and claimed that Eaddy fit the description perfectly. She said he fired three shots with a gun he was not supposed to have, fled the scene, and then came back for his bike.
She also said a hat and wrapper for a mask found at the scene contained samples there are a likely match for the defendant’s DNA.
