Baltimore Police Department’s Special Investigations Response Team (SIRT) along with the Crash Team are investigating the death of a man after a stolen vehicle collided with a building on Feb. 8.

On Wednesday, at approximately 8:54 p.m., Eastern District officers spotted a black 2017 Hyundai Sonata in the E. North Avenue corridor. Officers attempted to investigate the stolen vehicle, at which time the vehicle fled from officers.

The vehicle, which was stolen on Feb. 7, struck another vehicle, and both vehicles struck a building at the intersection of E. North Avenue and Wolfe Street, causing the building to collapse.

Fire fighters and medics responded to the scene and began emergency rescue operations.

Officers pulled 54-year-old Alfred Fincher from building debris and was pronounced deceased at the scene by medics.

The five occupants from the involved vehicles were extracted and transported to area hospitals. They have been treated and released from area hospitals.

There were two occupants in the stolen vehicle and three in the second vehicle, an orange 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse.

The driver of the stolen vehicle has been arrested and is identified as 33-year-old Shawn Lee Brunson.

Brunson has been charged with stealing an automobile and future charges are pending.

This investigation is open and ongoing.
