A non-fatal shooting trial involving co-defendants Tomekyo Williams, 44, and Javon Brown, 20, will continue next week in Baltimore City Circuit Court before Judge Yvette M. Bryant.
On July 10, Brown entered a guilty plea; however, when the clerk attempted to swear him in, Brown refused to raise his right hand. This led to an exchange between Brown and the judge, followed by the defendant’s removal from the courtroom to allow him to calm down.
Brown did not return to the courtroom. The judge later noted that only seven jurors were available for selection in Williams’ trial, delaying the proceedings to July 13.
The case stems from an April 15, 2025 shooting on the 1800 block of W. Pratt Street in Southwest Baltimore that left one person injured. Williams and Brown are each charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, firearm use in a felony or violent crime, and assault with a weapon. Brown also faces charges of firearm possession and wearing, carrying, or transporting a handgun within 100 yards of a school, church, or park.
According to charging documents, officers responded to the area after hearing gunshots and receiving a ShotSpotter alert. Investigators said Brown was observed chasing the victim before entering a black Chrysler that drove away from the scene.
Police later followed the Chrysler, which crashed into a nearby fence. Three individuals exited the vehicle, and investigators alleged that Brown ran away while carrying a handgun before firing. He was apprehended a short time later.
Investigators allegedly identified Williams as the driver of the Chrysler involved in the incident. A witness, who was also the registered owner of the vehicle, told detectives that the driver was a man known as “Tone,” later identified as Williams.
The vehicle’s owner told detectives that Williams had possession of her 2014 Chrysler after the two had an argument the night prior. She said she left the vehicle with her children and took an Uber home, leaving her cellphone inside the car. She told investigators that she had not spoken with Williams since that night and that the vehicle had not been returned.
Surveillance footage showed the victim exiting a black Dodge Charger and running while an individual supposedly matching Brown’s description exited the Chrysler and followed him while armed with a handgun, according to investigators. Officers also found multiple shell casings at the scene consistent with the caliber of the recovered firearm.
Brown is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to prior convictions, including robbery and second-degree assault.
