Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Dana M. Middleton on Sept. 9 postponed the sentencing for a man convicted of voluntary manslaughter to allow the victim’s mother to be present.
The prosecution requested the sentencing of Jonathan Calloway be moved to a later date because the mother of the victim had a doctor’s appointment that she could not move.
According to Baltimore City State’s Attorney Office, Calloway was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter and openly carrying a dangerous weapon with the intent to injure for the death of Tyler Kirby, 25, on Sept. 5, 2019.
Calloway slashed Kirby’s throat in the Walbrook neighborhood while intervening in an altercation between Kirby and his girlfriend.
The Baltimore Sun reported that Kirby walked into St. Agnes Hospital and died less than an hour after he arrived with stab wounds to his neck.
Judge Middleton had no issues with postponing the sentencing saying that it’s the victim’s family’s right to be present.
Judge Middleton scheduled Calloway’s next hearing for Nov. 14, 2022.
