A man accused of his former girlfriend’s attempted murder had his trial postponed for the second time on June 27 due to the prosecutor’s illness.
Roderick Johnson was scheduled to go to trial in front of Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Paul Alpert on Tuesday; however, the judge sent the case to Judge Melissa Copeland’s reception court for rescheduling after an assistant state’s attorney standing in for the assigned prosecutor requested the postponement.
The 37-year-old defendant’s attorney, Benjamin Charlton, opposed the request, saying that the prosecution was responsible for the trial’s first postponement in March when one of her witnesses was unavailable. Following Judge Copeland’s approval of the postponement, the case was scheduled to return to reception court on July 5 to determine a trial date.
Johnson is currently facing attempted murder, assault, reckless endangerment, and weapons charges in connection to an incident on Nov. 4, 2021. The defendant allegedly got into an argument with his girlfriend and shot her multiple times, according to Fox 45 News.
