On Oct. 2, 21-year-old Ranell Little accepted a plea agreement offered by the state before Judge Robert K. Taylor, Jr.
Little pleaded guilty to one count of firearm possession, one count of handgun on person, and a third count for firing and discharge of any gun, pistol or firearm.
He will be sentenced to five years for count one, five years for count two, and one year for the shooting all served concurrently.
Defense Attorney James Sweeting III, ensured that the defendant understood his rights.
According to the prosecution, on Jul. 8, on the 300 block of Light Street Little fled from patrol officers on foot, while continuously keeping his left hand on the front of his waistband presumingly to secure a firearm.
While running through an intersection, officers heard a singular gunshot coming from Little.
A short while after officers caught and detained him on the 300 block of S. Charles Street, an officer then retraced Little’ path and discovered an Omega HS-300 .22 caliber revolver.
Additionally, during questioning officers noted a burn hole and gun powder residue on Little’s clothing.
Further investigation revealed Little was prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition on probation due to a Mar. 27, 2024 attempted carjacking.
Judge Taylor wants to transfer the carjacking before probation matter to expedite scheduling.
Little’s sentencing hearing will occur on Oct. 16.
