Prosecutor Causes Delay in Start Stricker Street Attempted Murder Trial

Witnesses for the prosecution delayed the trial for a 2022 attempted murder defendant that was supposed to start on July 11. 

David Jones’ attorney Benjamin Charlton pushed for the trial to start during the proceeding, but the prosecution was having difficulty getting two witnesses to testify from North Carolina. They are expected to arrive in time for a July 12 trial. 

The proceeding was before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Melissa M. Phinn

The trial will be before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge John Addison Howard. 

According to the Maryland Judiciary website, Jones, 55, is charged with first- and second-degree attempted murder, first- and second-degree assault, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony violent crime, firearm possession with a felony conviction, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, possession of firearms during a controlled dangerous substance offense, having a handgun on his person, illegal possession of ammo, discharging a firearm, and reckless endangerment in connection to an incident on Sept. 25, 2022.  

According to charging documents, Jones was on the 200 block of Stricker Street when he heard one of the victims’ son talking on Instagram live. The defendant thought that the comments were directed at him. Jones then shot up in the air toward the third floor where the victim’s son was and damaged the home. 

No one was injured. Jones confessed to the shooting and was identified though a photo array. He offered to pay for the damages.
