The prosecution presented opening arguments on Oct. 18 before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Robert K. Taylor, Jr, for the murder of 16-year-old Deanta Dorsey on Jan 4. 2023.

Daaon Spears, 18, is facing 31 charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and multiple firearm charges for the shooting at Edmondson Village Shopping Center.

The prosecutor presented testimony from police officers, crime scene technicians, and family members. First, a crime scene technician sketched the crime scene, showing where the bullets were located outside of a Popeyes restaurant.

A firearms’ analyst said the bullets were likely from the gun used in the crime. The victim was shot 16 times

Spear’s mother testified, identifying her son in photographs previously shown her by detectives. When asked about the incidents on January 4, she explained that she works nights and sleeps during the day, so she wasn’t aware of Spear’s activities.

She also identified Bryan Johnson, Spears’ co-defendant, as his cousin.

Attorney Brandon T. Taylor is representing Spears.
