A 19-year-old defendant accused of the murder of 18-year-old Riyad Campbell had his case nolle pros by the prosecution before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Robert Taylor on March 31.
The prosecution entered a nolle pros on all charges against defendant James Boisseau, who is represented by defense attorney John Cox.
During Friday’s hearing, the prosecution informed the judge that they could not locate a witness despite multiple efforts.
According to witness testimony, on March 29, 2020, Boisseau and co-defendants Devin Thompson and Deshon Walker allegedly robbed Campbell and his friends, who attempted to make a purchase at a liquor store. The victims were allegedly followed by the co-defendants in a car when someone fired a shot through the back windshield, hitting Campbell.
In July 2021, Thompson, 18, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.
In June 2022, a jury found Walker, 20, not guilty of the murder of Campbell.
As stated in court documents, Boisseau was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, and attempted armed robbery, as well as three counts of reckless endangerment from a car and conspiracy to commit an armed robbery. In addition, he is charged with six counts of use of a firearm in a felony violent crime and one charge of having a loaded handgun in a vehicle, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm as a minor in connection to the murder of Campbell.
