The prosecution claimed in closing arguments on Nov. 18 in Baltimore City Circuit Court that a defendant made a clear attempt to kill the victim in a shooting. The proximal cause was a dispute over money.
The defendant, 30-year-old Davon Parker is charged with attempt to kill, attempted second degree murder, first degree assault, and firearm usage in a felony or violent crime.
The shooting occurred after the victim allegedly started a fist fight with Parker because the defendant reportedly him money. Parker allegedly retaliated by shooting the victim during the melee.
“I’m not saying the victim is innocent as he clearly tried to fight the defendant,” the prosecution said. “The victim, however, never had a weapon, which the defendant did and he shot the victim. This is clearly an attempt to kill and the defendant must be found guilty.”
Parker’s defense attorney Jason Rodriguez claimed that the defendant was acting in self-defense because the victim attacked him first and was trying to rob him.
Parker’s case was heard in front of Judge Cynthia H. Jones.
