Post Conviction Hearing Postponed Due to Prosecutor Being Overbooked

On Sept. 15, a post conviction hearing was postponed for an attempted murder defendant in the Cummings Courthouse before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Jeffrey Geller. 

Defense attorney Victoria Kawecki and her client Ronald Freeman were ready for the hearing when the case was called around noon on Thursday, but they were notified that the prosecutor would not be present. 

The prosecutor assigned to the case had relayed to a stand-in assistant state’s attorney that he was overloaded with cases that day. 

In 2019, Freeman, 32, was sentenced to life, suspending all but 25 years for attempted murder with five years for the firearm charge to be served concurrently. He also has five years on probation.

Judge Geller was unhappy with the postponement request saying he was empathetic for Freeman, who suffers from poor health and has difficulty walking; however, he did grant the request.

Freeman’s new hearing is scheduled for Nov. 10, 2022 with or without a representative from the prosecution, said Judge Geller.
