The post-conviction of a 40-year-old Baltimore man who was charged with attempted second-degree murder received a sentence reduction of 10 years before Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge John Nugent on July 7.

Mitchell Kirby was convicted to second-degree attempted murder in connection to an incident on July 29, 2021.

During the hearing, Kirby’s defense attorney Josh Insley argued that his client’s sentence of 40 years was over the maximum for the deal they worked out, which allowed him to receive a reduction of 10 years to his sentence.

According to CBS Baltimore, on July 29, 2021, officers were called to the 1200 block of W. Mulberry Street in Poppleton about 6:45 p.m., where a 39-year-old woman was found suffering from multiple lacerations to the face and body.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was stabilized. She was later taken to a specialist for traumatic injuries, said police.

Doctors told police the woman had more than 20 lacerations to the face and body, leaving her with scars for the rest of her life.
