A 17-year-old victim is alleged to have been the second shooter in an incident from which he was injured.
Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge John S. Nugent released the juvenile on home detention on Aug. 26 during bail review. His release stipulates that he is only allowed to leave home to attend school or for a medical emergency.
The defendant, who has been incarcerated since July 21, is currently charged with discharging a firearm. His defense attorney said his client has no prior record.
According to the teenager’s defense attorney, investigators recently learned that the defendant was the second shooter in the incident when he was shot after reviewing video surveillance. The footage allegedly shows the defendant walking into an alley wearing black clothing and a surgical mask and firing a gun.
However, if his client did fire a gun, the defense attorney said, “it would clearly be a self-defense issue.”
The prosecution said he has reviewed the two videos in question. Although the shooter’s face isn’t shown in one video, he said, the defendant is visible in the other video.
The shooter is alleged to have fired 14 times using a 9mm handgun based on the shell casings found at the scene, the prosector noted.
The defendant is currently scheduled for trial on Sept. 10; however, his defense attorney said it would likely be postponed due his client’s upcoming transfer.
